Horror fans around the glob have been dreading this news for years, but it looks like the nightmare is finally turning into reality, as according to The L.A. Times, director Craig Gillespie has been tapped to direct the upcoming FRIGHT NIGHT remake for DreamWorks.
Who the f*ck is this Gillespie fellow, anyway? That should be the question you’re asking yourself right now, and unfortunately, the answer is not one you’re gonna wanna hear. Gillespie is the man behind such romantic comedies as LARS AND THE REAL GIRL, MR. WOODCOCK, and the Showtime series THE UNITED STATES OF TARA. Yes… the outlook for this remake is not looking good…
Marti Noxon has been hit up to write the screenplay (she’s written a few episodes of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER), and now the question remains as to who will star in the film. It’s not a matter of if this film will be made, but when at this point, and that is a very sad thing indeed.
Why so sad? For starters, the premise of a kid who learns his neighbor is a vampire will feel, to todays’ uneducated audience, like a rip-off of DISTURBIA and TWILIGHT, which is ridiculous since the original film came out in 1985, but trust me… a lot of people won’t know that. Lame. Lame I say!
