According to ScreenDaily, the project is being made through U.K.’s Illumination Films and digital film studio Warp X, with the English and Italian language film set to lens later this year. Keith Griffiths and Simon Field produce for Illumination, Peter Carlton and Robin Gutch for Warp X. Word is the two ventures look to incorporate a third, international co-producer.
As far as the subject matter of BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO goes: The film will follow an English sound engineer who goes to work in an Italian sound studio that handles many of the country’s nastiest horror flicks.
Wow, that premise is actually pretty damn cool. To set a horror film within the world of horror films inherently makes for an interesting watch, and this looks to be no exception. Reading that logline, I’m actually hit with visions of Brian De Palma’s underrated masterwork BLOW OUT (1981), in which John Travolta’s character discovers an assassination plot through various sound effect recordings (Travolta, in one of his absolute best performances, also plays a horror film soundman).
