One reboot I’m very much looking forward to is ROBOCOP. Don’t get me wrong… I’m a huge fan of the original film. Pure violent genius at it’s best. But Darren Aronofsky is nothing short of amazing and I’m stoked to see what he can do with a story like ROBOCOP. I’m sure I’m not the only one either…
Things were looking very grim though. The last we heard the film had been put on hold while Aronofsky and MGM went back and forth about making ROBOCOP 3-D. Well that and Aronofsky is busy filming BLACK SWAN, some movie where Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman kiss. If you’re as excited as I am for this flick then that was like a punch to the gut… but don’t worry just yet!
Today the guys over at ShockTillYouDrop are saying Mr. Aronofsky is still very much attached to the film! At THE WOLFMAN premiere STYD chatted a bit with ROBOCOP scribe David Self, who confirms: “”I’m still involved with it and Darren Aronofsky’s still involved with it. He’s making another movie right now (Black Swan), but we’re waiting for MGM, to sort things out since they’re a large corporation and it’s a situation where we have to be practical. We’re waiting to continue with them, we hope that that happens soon and we can get back to it soon.”
Well we don’t really get much there. Sure Self confirms he and Aronofsky are still attached but he also confirms that there’s a lot of stuff to sort through before things get rolling. Shame because I don’t see anyone but Aronofsky succeeding with a ROBOCOP film. The writer goes on to say how the film is an origin story, more of a reboot rather than some sort of sequel.
What do you guys think? Would you give up the 3-D gimmick and CGI in order to see Darren Aronofsky behind this one or would you rather see ‘Alex Murphy’ and his shiny metal in three dimensions? I’m definitely for the Aronofsky version, as I’m sure most of you are. Let’s make MGM aware of that! Keep it here for more on ROBOCOP as we hear it.
