Anyone remember the 1979 Disney movie THE BLACK HOLE?

First off, let’s run a synopsis for the original Gary Nelson film, shall we:
For five years the crew of the PALOMINO has ranged through deep space, searching for evidence of alien life–with no result. Then, their mission almost at an end, they discover a giant collapsar–the largest black hole ever encountered–and, drifting perilously near it, is the long-lost legendary starship CYGNUS…Incredibly, the ship is not a lifeless hulk. Its commander–the genius who designed the CYGNUS and planned its epic voyage–still survives, served by a horde of mechanical slaves. But Commander Hans Reinhardt has no desire to be rescued. He has a rendezvous with the incredibly hellish forces of the collapsar–and he plans to take the PALOMINO’S crew along on his doomed adventure.
Pretty dark stuff for a Disney flick, know what I’m sayin’?
Looking to employ the cinematic sci-fi acumen culled from TRON LEGACY, Kosinski had this to say about the project: “For me, it would be taking ideas and iconic elements that struck me as timeless and cool and preserving them while weaving a new story around them that’s a little more ‘2001’”
So which elements will remain, and which will get tossed?
“What sticks out most is the robot Maximilian,” Kosinski added, referring to lead actor Maximilian Schell. “The blades and the vicious killing of Anthony Perkins. That freaked me out and that’s definitely going to be an element that will be preserved. The design of the Cygnus ship is one of the most iconic spaceships ever put to film.”
Nice! Who wouldn’t wanna preserve a ghastly felling of good ol’ Norman Bates?!?
As far as the scientific agenda of the film goes, Kosinski notes: “From a conceptual point of view, we know so much more about black holes now, the crazy things that go on as you approach them due to the intense gravitational pull and the effects on time and space. All that could provide us with some really cool film if we embrace it in a hard science way.”
