Are you afraid of birds? Let’s be honest now… Most of those winged demons are ugly looking right? They have the power to just up and fly away whenver they’d like… and they can come at you from every direction at any given time, well as long as your outside. I suppose we can just be thankful they prefer worms though, right?

Seriously though it’s always fun to watch a genre flick that tackles something like killer birds, which brings me to today’s topic: James Nguyen’s BIRDEMIC: SHOCK AND TERROR. Go ahead and scope out the synopsis:

A platoon of eagle & vultures attack the residence of a small town. Many people died. It’s not known what caused the flying menace to attack. Two people managed to fight back, but will they survive Birdemic?

Alright so it sounds a lot like Alfred Hitchcock’s THE BIRDS, right? Well that’s because the film is basically an homage to Hitchcock’s classic. It’s even got a cameo from THE BIRDS star Tippi Hedren (below)! Here’s the full cast: Hedren, Alan Bagh, Whitney Moore, Janae Caster, Colton Osborne, Rick Camp, Damien Carter, James Z. Feng, Stephen Gustavson, Milan Lee, Steve Mcmoy, Mona Lisa Moon, Cameron Palmer, Adam Sessa, Zoya Shybkouskaya, Jaime Soria, Bonnie Steiger and Eric Swartz.

Today three new videos for BIRDEMIC popped up on the web and I’m here to tell you about them! First up, over in our videos section you’ll find the trailer for BIRDEMIC along with a clip titled “Attack at Convenience Store.” Intrigued? Scroll down to check those out now! After that you can head over to Vimeo to check out an entertaining behind the scenes look at BIRDEMIC. You can also find that video below. Ready for the details?

Severin Films just snagged the rights to the romantic thriller that ‘triggered outrage and controversy at Sundance.’ That may be the synopsis above but the heart of the film is a horror/action/special-effects-driven love story about a young couple trapped in a small Northern California town under siege by homicidal birds. Ha… homicidal birds. But that’s not all BIRDEMIC is battling! The film also touches on global warming, avian flu, world peace, organic living, sexual promiscuity and lavatory access.

Now I bet you’re wondering what kind of outrage this little film caused at Sundance right? ‘When rejected for an official screening slot at Sundance, Nguyen spent eight days driving up and down the festival’s nearby streets in a van covered with fake birds, frozen blood and BIRDEMIC posters, while loudspeakers blared the sounds of eagle attacks and human screams.’ That’s awesome…. and obviously it worked! Severin are planning on giving BIRDEMIC a limited theatrical release later this year! Now until we hear more news on BIRDEMIC:SHOCK AND TERROR I’ll leave you all with the words of Severin CEO Carl Daft. Also be sure to visit the film’s official website!

“BIRDEMIC is truly unlike any other film we’ve ever seen. The fact that James Nguyen wrote, produced, directed, financed and self-marketed such a unique feature is in itself a story worth celebrating. On a certain level, this is a landmark independent production and James is truly an auteur for our time. We’re enormously excited for audiences to experience BIRDEMIC for themselves.”
