An interesting project popped up over at The Hollywood Reporter today coming from Sony Pictures. You see the studio just snagged the rights to Jeff Somers’ series of sci-fi novels. What kind of sci-fi novels? Well let me tell you!

The series spans four novels (thus far): THE ELECTRIC CHURCH, THE DIGITAL PLAGUE, THE ETERNAL PRISON and THE TERMINAL STATE, the latter of which is scheduled to be released later this year. Well first up on Sony’s checklist would be the first in the series, obviously, THE ELECTRIC CHURCH. The studio have already tapped scribe Trevor Sands to pen the screenplay. Sands just finished HYPERION for Warner Brothers so the man has got sci-fi coming out of his ears!

THE ELECTRIC CHURCH follows Avery Cates, a bodyguard-assassin who is forced by the governing police force to kill the founder of a church that converts people by transplanting their brains into pliant robotic bodies. Sounds like fun to me! Now that’s all we’ve got from The Hollywood Reporter but if you’re intrigued at all I highly suggest you check out THE ELECTRIC CHURCH’s official website, which is pretty tapped… Enjoy! GET OUT NOW!
