So what’s your take on Dominic Sena’s SEASON OF THE WITCH? It’s kind of a mixed bag huh? First we got Sena, whose films are almost always impressive but not ‘great.’ Then we’ve got star Nicolas Cage, who seems to be getting back into a decent grove with his choice of projects but is still rocking a horrid hairdo. And lastly we’ve got that halfway decent trailer that got released not too long ago. Need more to sway your judgement? How about an official rating?! Good because that’s exactly what we have for you today!
The MPAA just slapped the supernatural fantasy with a PG-13 rating for thematic elements, violence and disturbing content. Hmm. Well that’s kind of a drag. Violence and disturbing content huh? I don’t really know how content can be disturbing without an R rating but we’ll go with it. Maybe WITCH’s action will still rock? Let’s hope so!
In the supernatural thriller SEASON OF THE WITCH, Nicolas Cage stars as a 14th Century Crusader who returns with his comrade (Ron Perlman) to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch (Claire Foy) to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence.
A priest (Stephen Campbell Moore), a grieving knight (Ulrich Thomsen), an itinerant swindler (Stephen Graham), and a headstrong youth who can only dream of becoming a knight (Robert Sheehan) join a mission troubled by mythically hostile wilderness and fierce contention over the fate of the girl.
When the embattled party arrives at the abbey, a horrific discovery jeopardizes the knight’s pledge to ensure the girl fair treatment and pits them against an inexplicably powerful and destructive force.
As stated the film stars Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman, Claire Foy, Stephen Campbell Moore, Ulrich Thomsen, Stephen Graham and Robert Sheehan. It hits theaters everywhere on March 19th!
