A while back we got wind that action superstar Jean-Claude Van Damme was going to jump back in the kickboxing ring for one last fight. Not a stunt fight, or a promo for a movie, but an action no-holds-barred fight to the finish. While there’s not a soul out there who wouldn’t want to see such awesomeness, we were skeptical. Until now, that is.
Thai sources have dished some interesting news over the last week: a meeting with JCVD, fight promoters, and fighting opponent Somluck Kamsing took place on December 29. During the meeting, they set up the fight date for sometime in October 2010. But wait, it gets better. The fight is going to happen in Las Vegas, Nevada!
Wow, it looks like this fight is actually going to happen! And while nothing has been officially announced just yet, the above picture was taken of the two fighters about the time of the meeting, so the likelihood that this is the real deal is up there. The fight will be contested under slightly modified Muay Thai rules, and will be heavily promoted to make the most buck for its bang. Let’s hope neither of them go down in the first round.
JCVD was a professional kickboxer in the 70s, but retired in 1980; Somluck Kamsing won a Gold Medal at the ’96 Olympics for his mad boxing skills. The fight of the century? The fight of the new decade? The fight to end all fights and prove to the world that JCVD really does do his own stunts? You bet your flippin’ asses.
