Just call me the bearer of bad news. Earlier today I informed you about the passing of horror writer Chas. Balun (HERE), and now I have the unfortunate task to inform you that Zelda Rubinstein is critically ill at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles and after a battle with organ failure, has been removed from life support.
Rubinstein hit it big in 1982, starring in Tobe Hooper’s POLTERGEIST as the film’s resident medium and speaker to the undead. She had a powerful presence during every moment of screen time she had, and her eerie voice and overall persona are what memorable horror characters are made of.
She also showed up in both of the film’s sequels, and went on to a variety of other projects, including the recently released horror flick BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON, and served as the narrator of the Fox show ‘The Scariest Places on Earth.’
A couple of years back, our own Eric Walkuski had a chance to interview Rubinstein (see that interview HERE), and had nothing but nice things to say about her character and charisma, as she was very appreciative of her success and fans of her work.
