Ghostbusters 3 in 2011?

Regardless of what you think about the possibility of a third GHOSTBUSTERS film, rampant discussion about the project has picked up as of late. Whether it’s Sigourney backtracking spoiler territory, or Michael Cera professing his undying love for the original, a third installment looks more imminent than ever. Well now, according to Egon Spengler himself (Harold Ramis), the flick will shoot sometime next summer, with a planned 2011 release!

Something’s going to happen. Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future…GB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011.

A couple things. I just watched (the OG) BACK TO THE FUTURE two days ago, and filling Doc Brown’s performative shoes is quite a tall task (of course, I think Aykroyd and Murray know what the hell they’re doing!) Secondly, to hell with this whole regeneration aspect. It only serves to relegate the original leads as background fodder in an attempt to usher in new fans and skew to that much coveted younger demographic. It’s garbage. The reason a GB3 flick is so appealing is precisely because we want to see the old dudes rock a proton pack and see how fresh they, yes THEY, can make the material. Seriously, I don’t even think Seth Rogen would wanna see himself in such an iconic role. It’s embarrassing!

So I’ve done purged my weekly rant (it’s only Tuesday?), go ahead and chime in on this matter below!
