Overture gets Stoned

Though not a horror film proper, when a flick (re)teams Ed Norton with Bob De Niro, not to mention the smoldering heat of one Milla Jovovich, you best believe it warrants some damn mentioning! And yes, such is certainly the case with John Curran’s upcoming arsonist thriller STONE, which just got snatched up by Overture Films.

Curran (THE PAINTED VEIL) turns to a script by Angus MacLachlan (JUNEBUG) about a convicted arsonist (Norton) looks to manipulate a parole officer (De Niro) into a plan to secure his parole by placing his beautiful wife (Jovovich, naturally) in the lawman’s path.

Don’t know about you, but I think the word lawman is funny. Don’t agree? Just cop a look at Seagal’s new TV show!

About the project, Overture CEO Chris McGurk had this to say: “Curran is a gifted firector working from a fantastic script and with a top-notch ensemble of actors,” with COO Danny Rosett adding “All of us at Overture are excited to be adding this exciting film to our slate next year.” Yeah, I’d be excited as well if I got to clock dailies of Milla for three months!

Co-starring Frances Conroy, Enver Gjokaj, Liam Ferguson, Pepper Binkley, Sarab Kamoo, Don Cochran and Lamont Bell – STONE looks to adhere to a slated May 7, 2010 release.

Overture will oversee U.S. distribution. Nu Image will handle international sales.
