I’m sure the name Robin Hood evokes a different meaning for each person. To me, it’s inexorably linked to Tracy Ullman’s character Shithouse in Mel Brooks’ MEN IN TIGHTS. After-all, I do have standards!
But looking to redefine all our terms is John Regan’s SHERWOOD HORROR, a modern day retelling of the classic Robin Hood story with much greater bite. Taking the plot further, the film finds:
Ex-con Rob Locksley (DJ Perry) return home after a six-year absence only to find his town under the rule of vampires. He must join forces with his old roughneck hunting buddies to wage war against the evil Sheriff and his horde of blood-suckers.
Ah, that makes me smile. A contemporary Robin Hood teaming with redneck locals to fend off a band of flesh-starved vampires? Pure bliss!
And aside from the new concept art for the film (which you’re looking at above right, designed by Matt Bahr), a new casting announcement has been made. That’s right y’all, newcomer Mike Powers will play Will Scarlet, Locksley’s impulsive younger cousin who fronts a punk band “Scarlet Fever” in a small southern town. He also happens to be quick-witted and deadly with a dagger.
No telling yet when SHERWOOD HORROR will be unleashed.
