Summit & Pitt do Vlad

Summit Entertainment loves themselves some vampires. The company that brought us the TWILIGHT series is teaming up with producer Brad Pitt for yet another vampire movie–but don’t worry folks, there won’t be any sparkling vampires with dull teeth with this one!

Written by actor Charlie Hunnam, the flick is called VLAD, an action-orientated take on the Dracula story. An action vampire movie starring Dracula? As long as it’s better than BLADE: TRINITY, I’m all for it!

According to the Heat Vision Blog, Pitt and Dede Gardne will be producing the flick through their Plan B Entertainment production company, with music video director Anthony Mandler in negotiations to direct. Mandler apparently has a similar style to Zack Snyder, and Summit is hoping this will be another stylish period piece along the lines of 300.

So why is this sucker called VLAD and not DRACULA? Easy. Because VLAD centers on Dracula as a young prince; he is known to history as Vlad the Impaler, the man behind the Dracula myth. And there you have it. Vlad is Dracula. Dracula is Vlad. I can dig it, yo!

It should be interesting to see if Summit can contribute to making a vampire movie that isn’t aimed at 12 year old girls, but with Pitt’s Plan B on board as well, and the titled character being one f*cking crazy ass killing machine, I think we’ll be in good hands with this one. Stick around for more news on VLAD as we hear it!
