After vanishing into oblivion for what literally seemed like years (oh wait, it was), Christian Alvart’s psychological horror effort CASE 39 looks alive and well, and we’ve got a behind the scenes look as well as a new clip from the film to prove it.

Starring Renee Zellweger, Bradley Cooper and Ian McShane, CASE 39 sees a social worker (Zellweger) fight to save a girl from her abusive parents, only to discover that the situation is more dangerous than she ever expected.

That’s a rather tame synopsis, wouldn’t you say? Well awhile back I saw clip of Zellweger either trying to lock or rescue a young girl in damn oven, Hansel and Gretel style, so I know I’m holding at least a glimmer of hope.

In the first clip (a BTS featurette), we hear from Zellweger, Cooper and McShane talk a little bit about the film and their respective characters. They also gush about their German director and his ability to bring such a story to life. We also hear from Alvart himself, who not only reciprocates the adoration of his cast, we see how intricate his storyboards are.

In the second clip, entitled “Hornets,” we see Cooper’s character discover a shocking and painful looking truth about what the hell’s been living in his head. Hint, those allergic to bees may find it a bit F*cked up.

Also starring Jodelle Ferland, Kerr O’Malley, Callum Keith Rennie, Adrian Lester, Georgia Craig, Cynthia Stevenson and Mary Black – CASE 39 finally sees the light on January 1st, 2010.
