So last week I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the red carpet festivities leading up to a premiere screening of Charlie Picerni’s biker-vampire flick THE BLEEDING. As a relative new Arrow-head, I really didn’t know what to expect. Of course, being a wide-eyed red-shirt, I predictably arrived 10 minutes prior to the official “crew check in time.” Not many people had arrived by then, save for a handful of much more professional looking photographers. I saddled up to them, exchanged pleasantries, then waited for other press and cast members to arrive.

As the clock inched closer to go time, I found myself herded like cattle into a tight ass crawlspace where all of us media types (big ups to Pat at Fango, as well
as the dudes from STYD and BD) we’re shoulder-to-shoulder crammed like immigrants on a 19th century fleet. No biggie for me, as I’m skinny and quite pliable. Besides, I’m mere minutes away from seeing Mr. Blond himself, the ever-busy Michael Madsen ( a dude who currently has 25 acting projects in various stages of production).

Matthias and Madsen!

Just as shit started to heat up (literally, given the mounting body heat of a stable of sardine-packed reporters, and figuratively), something happened that I’m still not sure whether it was beneficial or not. Myself and a fellow horror-head were whisked away from the red carpet into the much more comfortable confines of the actual movie theater. As the ravenous hordes below shucked and scrapped their way into a photo-op, me and a colleague were told to wait above for talent to be ushered into the theater, where we could take pictures with them, chat them up, lock some scoops and whatnot.

At first clip, you’d think yeah, that’s most beneficial. But never overestimate the unbridled heat of Rachelle Leah, whose enviable close-up I was unable to attain after such relocation. Besides, there’s nothing more life-affirming than voracious holiday-season type elbowing and dog-eat-dog position jockeying. In terms of the not so beneficial, against what was described, not as many above the line talent made their way into the theater. What started as a smooth and quiet proceeding soon turned into a raucous madhouse with people dashing everywhere, seemingly without order.

The stunning Ms. Rachelle Leah!

Some stars were dressed down to blend in with the masses, some fans and wannabe-discovered decked to the nines. It soon became a free-for-all mad-dash to lock whatever photos I could (including me running out of the theater and snapping what I could on the carpet). Since many of the actors in THE BLEEDING are relative unknowns, it’s understandable I went after the bigger fish (or at least people involved with the film). Below are a decent glut shots I was, under the chaotic circumstances, able to cull.

For those in wonderment, THE BLEEDING is a vampire-action flick about a man named Shawn Black (Michael Matthias) who must face a blood-thirsty league of demonic Angel castaways. Black turns to a priest (Madsen), the priest’s lackey (Pittsburgh Slim) and a whole COMMANDO style arsenal to bring as many ugly bloodsuckers back to the flaming pits of hell as they can. Stay on for the review!
