A movie I cannot effin’ wait for is BLACK SWAN, Darren Aronofsky’s ballet-related mindf*ck that apparently includes a sex scene between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. I mean, really, that’s all you need to know about it. Oh sure, it’s got an ace director, an A-list cast, and creepy supernatural goings-on, but… Portman… Kunis… sex scene… I’m in heaven.
In any event, the film has added a few more interesting cast members: Vincent Cassel, Barbara Hershey, and Winona Ryder. Cassel will play a sinister ballet director; Hershey will play Portman’s mother; and Ryder will tackle the role of an aging ballerina, whose job her younger rivals are all eyeing.
Shooting in New York City soon, SWAN is about a veteran ballerina (Portman) who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer (Kunis), with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it’s unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if the protagonist is simply having delusions.
After the huge mistake that was THE FOUNTAIN, Aronofsky completely redeemed himself with THE WRESTLER, which was terrific, so I’m anxious to see what else he’s got in store for us – especially if it’s of the thriller variety.
