I seem to be one of the few people out there who really liked MIRRORS, whether it was because seeing Jack Bauer scream obscenities was fun, the fact that I’ll watch anything with Amy Smart (below), or that Alexandre Aja is one of my favorite directors working today, I just really enjoyed the flick. But it didn’t do too well at the box office, and people generally seem to be ‘meh’ about it.
So where am I going with this? Oh yeah–the boys at BD are reporting that 20th Century Fox has greenlit MIRRORS II, and has signed on Victor Garcia, the man who brought us RETURN TO THE HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, to direct! Wow! Color me shocked! I guess it made enough on DVD to warrant a sequel–a sequel that will no-doubt be a STD feature.
Garcia did a fairly OK job with RETURN, and did manage to create a good ‘looking’ film, but lets face it–RETURN was trashy horror, and not anything to write home about. On the flip side, maybe that’s what Fox is looking for in this STD sequel of a not-so-popular horror flick.
MIRRORS II apparently goes a little something like this: After losing his fiancee in a car crash, for which he blames himself, suicidal Max Matheson reluctantly takes a job as a night watchman at his father’s Mayflower Department Store. When his co-workers are killed off in gruesome and horrible ways and Max begins to see a mysterious young woman in all the store’s mirrors, desperate to communicate with him, he fears he’s losing his mind, or that he may be the next victim.
Note to self: never work as a night watchman at a department store. You’ll likely see crazy shit in mirrors that will eventually kill you. Also, make sure your father likes you enough to give you a better job in his store than the night watchman position. Hell, a checker has to be better than that!
