Here we are folks, the moment many of you have been dying for for months now: the official teaser trailer for the Platinum Dunes’ remake of Wes Craven’s A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST.! We told you last week that the new trailer would be attached to this Friday’s ZOMBIELAND, but had no idea when it was hitting the internet. Well now we know–that day is today!
We have the first look at the remake starring Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, Rooney Mara as Nancy, and Kyle Gallner as Quentin (think the original Johnny Depp role), from acclaimed music video director Samuel Bayer. And the verdict? This flick is looking amazing as always (we are talking Platinum Dunes, after all), and appears to follow the original almost to the T!
Back in July I caught a glimpse of some footage in San Diego from the NIGHTMARE remake, and what we’re seeing today is similar, but not exactly the same. Believe it or not, we get to see more Freddy now than we did then, and more cool shots and images than the teaser of teasers at Comic Con.
I’m digging the parents-burn-Freddy sequence in the beginning, and I’m digging the fact that essential scenes seem to have made it in the remake: Nancy taking a path with JAWS-Freddy, her friend being ripped apart on the ceiling, and good ol’ Freddy hanging out in the scariest boiler room of all time. Unlike the new take on FRIDAY THE 13TH, which was really just another Jason sequel, the NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. remake looks like a straight-up remake, looking as close to the original as possible.
Check out the trailer below, spit some bullets below on your take (love it? hate it? voice yourself!), enjoy the trailer on the big screen with ZOMBIELAND starting this Friday, and get ready for Platinum Dunes’ A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. in theaters everywhere April 30, 2010.
