Variety nonchalantly announced that Dino De Laurentiis has jumped on the board the books based on werewolves bandwagon and scored the big-screen rights to Karen Russell’s novel anthology ST. LUCY’S HOME FOR GIRLS RAISED BY WOLVES. That title alone makes me puke a little bit in my mouth.
The original book is a collection of 10 stories having to do with supernatural elements and children, so you know it’s gotta be hardcore, right? Girls with parents who are werewolves, kids who like to hang out at graveyards, a boy who has premonitions of others’ deaths at summer camp, and so on and so forth. If you’re 9, you may have already read this book and you might have gotten a kick out of it. But for the rest of us? Not sure if there’s that same appeal.
No word on the ins and outs of the film version, no writer has been hired to adapt the novel into script-form yet, nor has there been a director named. Just the rights purchased. For a book featuring creepy supernatural stuff aimed at kids. But hey, DeLaurentis produces some pretty awesome stuff so maybe a flick like this just needs his touch to rock the house down.
