Scary Vacation is on!

Richard Stanley, director of HARDWARE, was looking a little ways back to make a big leap back to our genre with a flick titled VACATION. He even scored The Chin himself, Bruce Campbell, to star in it. However, the VACATION never really got out on the road…

Until now! Fango. just heard that Mr. Stanley is back in the saddle and back on VACATION. Only this time, The Chin is out and Tom Welling (Clark Kent from SMALLVILLE) is in. I wonder if Stanley retooled the part a little bit, only because I don’t exactly see Welling and Bruce Campbell auditioning for the same kind of roles. Either way, I’m glad the flick is back on because it’s got one damn interesting plot:

Bryce, a failing banker with a coke habit, books himself and his significantly younger lap-dancer ‘girlfriend’, Carly, into a seedy Middle Eastern tourist resort. He’s hoping for a spot of late-season sun and surf, a last, desperate stab at romance and the happiness that has always eluded him. They are so caught up in their own petty problems that neither of them realize at first that the end is truly nigh – the end of the world and human life. As the sun changes its cycle, freak solar storms take western civilization off-line forever, leaving Bryce and Carly marooned without credit cards in a hostile year-zero society that holds them responsible for the world’s pain and despises everything they represent. Faced with harsh existential choices and their own imminent extinction, they inadvertently find themselves, and happiness of a sort, albeit at a price.

Stanley also wrote the script alongside his girl, Maggie Moor (below). I’ll fill you guys in on more of VACATION as it travels my way.
