LET THE RIGHT ONE IN was a singular film-going experience. The acting, the emotions, the gore, and the story were just incomparable. And f*ck yeah, it was an Oscar-worthy movie. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you now have permission to stop reading this article so that you can go pick it up. For those of us who have already seen it, what are your thoughts on the upcoming U.S. remake that I guess was inevitable?
I really want to just shout out right away that it’s a horrible, horrible idea, but I don’t want to resort to the obligatory cynicism just yet. The only reason for my hesitation of negativity is because Matt Reeves (CLOVERFIELD) will be handling directing duties for LET ME IN (the remake’s moniker). I think Mr. Reeves has an eye for visuals and a desire to tell a meaningful story. Of course, all remakes deserve this kind of treatment, but some assholes only care about the cash.
Anyways, Jared P. just reported that young actor Kodi Smit-McPhee was perhaps on the verge of winning the role of, most likely, “Oskar” in the remake. Now today, our brethren over at Dread have scored some insight as to who may be taking on the role of “Abby”, Oskar’s vampy (girl)friend. They caught a peek at a trio of audition tapes by actresses Ariel Winter, Mary Mouser, and Chloe Moretz. It is believed that Moretz is the front-runner from a couple posts her mama made on her IMDB page. Perhaps we’ll be getting an official announcement soon?
