I didn’t think that Alex Aja’s MIRRORS was as jaw-droppingly intense as his previous two efforts, THE HILLS HAVE EYES and HIGH TENSION, but I did still enjoy it. Now, did I enjoy it enough to want a sequel? Hmm, I’d have to think about that one.
Regardless, it seems our friends at Shock learned that 20th Century Fox is developing a direct-to-DVD follow-up. Well, I’m not exactly sure yet how they would go forward with storyline for a sequel. I mean, the easiest route would probably just be to make it a prequel and have another security guard being haunted by the mirrors in the condemned department story. Yeah, it would be the lazy way out, but I don’t see how much further one could take events after how the first one ended. I’m not going to give the ending away, however. Also, I’m 100% certain that Kiefer Sutherland will not be coming back for more MIRRORS (and I’m not saying that because he dies (?) at the end).
You can also bet your ass that Mr. Aja won’t be returning as well. This is just always the pattern when studios begin turning out direct-to-DVD sequels of popular big-screen flicks. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean a MIRRORS 2 is going to suck balls. Look at what happened with WRONG TURN 2. I guess we’ll just wait and see for now.
