It’s been a little bit since we last brought you something on the shadowy and spooky indie DARK WOODS. By now, I’m sure you all know that I am a huge fan of the film’s female lead, Tracy Coogan, who hit it big right out of the gates with her turn in ZOMBIE HONEYMOON. I do believe she gives another stand-out performance with WOODS, so hopefully her name will become even more recognized.
That’s Tracy on the couch up top in the brand new poster for DARK WOODS, which is a nice step up from all previous artwork I’ve seen. The sense of dread and darkness is definitely way evident in this one. I just wish there was some sort of tagline to help tie together the image above and the one below. Well, for you guys, I’ll let the plot synopsis help tie ’em together. Have a look:
The story follows a couple who moves to a secluded cabin in the woods to cope with a terminal illness of the wife (played by Coogan). As her condition drags her deeper into dementia and darkness, the husband’s friendship with a local teenage girl takes a dangerous and obsessive turn.
Could be pretty damn interesting. I think it’s going to release straight to DVD, however I’m still unsure when. WOODS was directed by Mike Escobedo from a script by John Muscarnero (who also plays a role). In addition to Coogan (below), it stars James Russo, Mark Shady, Mary Kate Wiles, Yvonne Huff, and Rob Simpson.
