Lately, it seems that the JACK BROOKS: MONSTER SLAYER team (writer/director Jon Knautz and actor/co-writer Trevor Matthews) has been getting a great deal of buzz for their very next feature, THE SHRINE. I recall posting one of two articles on this flick just last month. Now at the beginning of this month, we have ourselves the first teaser poster (up top)!
What do you guys think? Not a bad eerie vibe, huh? I like the subtle use of that foggy mist as well as the forest setting. It definitely gives the impression that something f*cked up is about to happen. And it’s pretty neat how the title emerges at the bottom amidst foreign dialect.
Again, here is THE SHRINE’S full synopsis: After a young American backpacker goes missing in Europe, a group of journalists link his disappearance to a remote Polish village called Alvaina. Upon further investigation, the journalists discover that Alvaina has a history of bizarre cult activity revolving around human sacrifice. Hellbent on revealing the truth, they travel to the small village to uncover the story first hand. But after the discovery of an ancient stone statue hidden within the town, they quickly find themselves pursued by a mysterious and vengeful group of locals. Forced into the gruesome reality of true survival horror, the journalists soon realize that Alvaina hides a much darker secret than they could ever imagine.
And there you have it! Now, hopefully the next time we write about THE SHRINE, it’ll be to tell you who else will be in the cast alongside Mr. Matthews (perhaps they can score Robert Englund again?). Till then, go watch JACK BROOKS again. That shit was fun!
