Well today, all GATE fans can rejoice because the film has just secured $1.9 million in financing and WILL begin production at the MMC Studios in Cologne, Germany in the late summer! The budget was allocated by Stuttgart-based MFG Baden-Württemberg and Frankfurt’s HessenInvestFilm. THE GATE will be the first 3D live-action film from Germany.
I’m definitely very pleased about all this. Winter has proven himself quite adept at directing for our genre (see FREAKED). He’s also been very open on his high affinity for the original GATE, which should greatly help the new version’s chances of a successful transition to the big screen. I’m defintely going to be giving you all more info on this venture as it progresses.
