Scary new Spawn soon?

It would appear that everything is up for a reboot nowadays, even shit that just came out. (DAREDEVIL? FANTASTIC f*cking FOUR?!) Some are more worthy than others. One instance I can think of is SPAWN, which has truly huge potential, yet when a film version came out 11 years ago, it was a steaming pile of dog vomit. In fact, it’s one of the few movies I’ve ever seriously considered walking out of (yes, I saw it in the theater), and that’s something I still have never done.

In any event, it has looked for a while like we’d be getting an update of the enigmatic hero’s hellish tale, but nothing solid has come of it. But that may be changing, according to creator Todd McFarlane, who was asked of the project’s status by an IESB reporter at the WOLVERINE premiere.

According to the writer/toy producer, he’s got FIVE offers on the table to do a new SPAWN movie, ranging from big-budget to small and “grungy”. The way he sees it, it’s supposed to be a “scary” and “creepy” movie. Well yeah! Any story involving a dead CIA agent making a deal with the devil and coming back to Earth as a disfigured spawn of Satan should be kinda dark. And please, easy on the John Leguizamo…

We’ll of course keep you updated if this project moves any closer to becoming a reality. In the meantime, head on over to IESB to check out the whole interview with McFarlane.
