Last month I gave you a look at an interview with Jackie Earle Haley – courtesy of IGN – where the actor admitted talking with Platinum Dunes about the role of Freddy Krueger, saying he was “curious” about it… Well, his curiosity may have led to accepting the role, if Bloody Disgusting is to be believed.
The site is reporting that we can expect an “official announcement” as early as next week confirming that Haley is indeed strapping on the pointy glove to play Fred Krueger. For the record, I think this is great casting. Based on WATCHMEN, Haley can do menacing, sinister, and psychotic. Based on LITTLE CHILDREN, the motherf*cker can just plain act. A good combo for the Fredster. (No word on whether or not Freddy is still raised by Alice Cooper.)
Hopefully solid confirmation will come though the pipeline soon. Samuel Bayer is to direct the reboot of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET in Chicago this summer, working from a screenplay written by Wesley Strick and Eric Heisserer. The film has a release date of APRIL 16th, 2010.
