IFC bites Vampire Hunter

Christ we just can’t get away from vampires can we? Big screen and small. This latest news effects the small screen, which means I’ll probably never have to see it, as it sounds like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” meets, well, a hundred other things.

The project in question is “Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter”. Apparently there are 16 books – so far – written by Laurell K. Hamilton (seems like there’s about 800 different series of vampire books out there now), which integrate elements of “True Blood” and “Buffy”… And, we can only assume, “Twilight”, because I heard a rumor that everything has to bear some resemblance to “Twilight” nowadays… Just a rumor though…

In the books, Blake is a vampire hunter with a lousy dating life who also works as a police consultant investigating supernatural crimes. She attempts to come to terms with her own abilities and navigate romantic and political relationships within the vampire community.

Marvel Comics also runs a series of the Anita Blake books, so it must be sorta popular. Where the hell have I been?

Now, the news isn’t all bad. Turns out this will air on IFC – which does not have great original programming, in my opinion – but at least it’s not the CW. Of course, they’ve got their own bloodsuckers coming with “The Vampire Diaries”.
