We knew it would happen eventually, and it appears to be in the midst of happening right now. According to ShockTillYouDrop, ScreenGems is currently auditioning writers for HOSTEL: PART III, which will eventually make its way straight-to-DVD. It’s not known who from the original creative team will still be involved, although producer Scott Spiegel (FROM DUSK TILL DAWN 2) might stick around in some capacity. STYD is fairly confident that it won’t be as writer or director, however.
I’m fine with all this, honestly I don’t have a strong feeling toward the HOSTEL series one way or the other. If there must be a third entry, I offer some advice to whoever eventually gets the writing gig: Open it up a little. Get out of the dank factory and put it outdoors – like a medieval village? – or at least a vastly different interior location. I think we’ve gone as far as we can with the grimy chair in the ugly room. STYD is saying this new one might take place in the States, so that’s at least a step in a new direction.
Hostel II villainess Vera Jordanova won’t be back, I expect…
