Fangoria recently talked with J.T. Petty – director of the much-anticipated horror-western THE BURROWERS – and discussed briefly with him his planned remake of the infamous fake-umentary FACES OF DEATH. We’ve known it’s been in the works for a while now, so what’s the hold up?
“We have a finished script, and when they’re ready, I’m ready,” Petty says. “I believe they’re just trying to sort out some final legal issues with the title.”
The fact that there are legal issues with the title is funny to me. Imagine all sorts of legal documents being painstakingly rummeged through by lawyers, all with FACES OF DEATH written on them. “What the hell am I doing here?” one of these theoretical lawyers might wonder to himself…
As for the kind of movie Petty envisions, well, it sure sounds unique. “I am only remaking it because you cannot remake it [laughs]. There is no narrative in FACES OF DEATH, so I thought I could make something original and new out of it. I would describe this as a less melodramatic version of MAGNOLIA—but where everyone dies horribly.”

What say you folks? Any interest in this film, or is it just another “f*ck it” movie..? You’ve to to admit, it doesn’t sound like the standard remake bull we’re bombarded with day after day…
