This is just an “in case you missed it” article, as the info has already been revealed in a previous article: We’ve known for a while now that there are plans to do HALLOWEEN II, a follow-up to Rob Zombie’s largely unpopular re-imagining/stomping-on-the-memory of John Carpenter’s immortal classic. What’s unusual is how quiet everyone has been about it. It’s been developing with nary a whisper of info, other than it’s being directed by Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the duo behind the terrific home-invasion thriller INSIDE. But even that hasn’t been played up too much. Word began to circulate that perhaps this film was going straight to DVD, and let’s face it, it’s not like there’d be an overwhelming feeling of outrage among the horror community if that were true…
But, as it turns out, HALLOWEEN II will be heading to theaters (if it actually gets made, that is). Producer Malek Akkad attended this past weekend’s HALLOWEEN: 30 YEARS OF TERROR convention – which was covered by our own JimmyO (read his full coverage HERE
) and announced that all sequels to Zombie’s turd will be released theatrically. In addition, much like the original HALLOWEEN II, the sequel picks up directly after the original… The only question now is, will it be set in a practically (absurdly) abandoned hospital?
In addition to that tidbit, Akkad said Tyler Mane will definitely reprise his role as Michael Myers.
I’m intrigued by anything Bustillo and Maury are attached to, even if it is this unnecessary sequel/remake. I don’t doubt that it will be a better movie in every way than Zombie’s – because honestly, how could it not be?
Unfortunately, Danielle Harris will not be returning…
