Raimi’s Sleeper gets a writer

Variety is reporting that the Sam Raimi-produced film version of Ed Brubaker’s comic series SLEEPER has attached a writer: Brad Inglesby, who has a film called LOW DWELLER in development with Ridley Scott and Leonardo DiCaprio attached.

SLEEPER had at one point Tom Cruise in the lead, but he is not mentioned in the article at all, so perhaps that’s not the case anymore. Maybe he’s getting a bikini wax that month, or preparing a spaceship to fly into a volcano or whatever the f*ck it is this guy is into… Seems like a more rough-and-tumble type dude is needed to play the operative at the center of the tale anyway.

Here’s the lowdown: The comic centers on an operative whose fusion with an alien artifact makes him impervious to pain and allows him to pass the pain on to others through skin contact.

Sounds pretty neat, no? Wouldn’t mind hearing from some peeps who have actually read this thing, and whether or not they think a film version (with Cruise potentially in the lead) could be successful, or just another bummer. Discuss!
