Listen up, partners, while I speak of a superiorly fertile, yet strangely untapped subgenre known as the horror/western. How many of those can you name. The only one that instantly comes to mind for me is UNDEAD OR ALIVE. That’s it. Well, I was quite pleased to recently learn that Tony Tarantino (yes, Quentin’s father) is producing a new supernatural chiller set in the old west called DEATH KEEPS COMING (nice title!). And wait till you see the eclectic collection of cast members he’s assembled. First, off, I’ll give you just a quick synopsis of the plot:
A gunfighter shows up mysteriously to save a girl from an ancient gypsy curse, that leads to an unspeakable horror arising in the frontier land.
Although that ain’t a lot to go on yet, I’m still digging it. The olden-days aura of the old west is just so ripe for tales of the supernatural. Hopefully Mr. Tarantino is has a similar creative flare to his son’s. I wonder if DEATH’s writer/director Derek K. Milton got any advice from QT? Now, on to that cast…
You’re getting as your star, Martin Kove, who played evil sensei, John Kreese, of the Cobra Kai in THE KARATE KID (I recite his “Mercy is for the weak” speech at least once a week!). The rest of the cast includes Ernest Borgnine, Chad Everett, Stephen Tobolowsky, Muse Watson, and Dee Wallace (THE HOWLING). No word yet on a release date, but you can check out the official website here.
