Costner’s monster movie

Last time we wrote about THE NEW DAUGHTER was way back in October of last year, and it didn’t sound terribly appealing. You have Kevin Costner as single dad who moves with his two kids (yaawwwwnnn) to a farm where all of a sudden his daughter (to be played by Ivana Baquero) starts acting strange. Boring right?

But according to the writer, this isn’t just HIDE AND SEEK Part 2 (that would really suck). Turns out this thing becomes a MONSTER MOVIE! Since we haven’t really had any notable monster movies in a long while, I say this is a welcome development. Sure, Costner’s still in it, but I can look past that. I think.

Here’s a blurb from the Fango article: Travis tells Fango that Costner’s character quickly discovers “there is this ominous mound on his acreage, and he has no idea what it is. He thinks it’s possibly a Native American burial mound, but as it turns out, it’s much, much worse.” Exactly what it is, Travis won’t say, but he does reveal that in the end, “It actually becomes a monster movie.”

Travis also guarantees a “hard R” for THE NEW DAUGHTER, which I also like hearing. The film is directed by Luis Berdejo, and is expected to hit theaters March ’09. Also starring are Samantha Mathis (pictured below), Noah Taylor, James Gammon, and Erik Palladino.
