I found HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY to be a very amusing movie that could have – should have – been an epic. Guillermo del Toro obviously has an extraordinary imagination when it comes to creating fantastical characters, but I find that, at least in the HELLBOY flicks, he doesn’t put them in very interesting stories. That’s not to say I dislike the films, because I do indeed. I just think they’re missing a true sense of wonder and grandeur…
Maybe del Toro will get it right with a third HELLBOY feature, which is certainly a possibility (read the director’s own words on the matter HERE). Rob Perlman is certainly down, and why wouldn’t he be? The actor spoke with Moviehole recently and had the following to say:
“Nothing’s been announced but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a third, particularly on the heels of Hellboy II’s success. And I know Guillermo has an incredibly well-articulated idea about what the third movie needs to be. It’ll answer a lot of questions. It almost needs to happen because with the ideas that he has about closing the trilogy, it would be a shame for it go unfinished.”
If you’ve seen part 2, you know there’s certainly an opening for another (darker?) movie, and considering the flick has made $100 worldwide (with much more certain to come on DVD), the only thing standing in the way of a third entry is a little project called THE HOBBIT. But that should be done in a flash…
All I ask is that Selma Blair has a scene like this in Part 3…
