I can not wait for MIDNIGHT MOVIE to freakin’ come out! Unfortunately, it now looks like I’m going to have to wait just a little more. Apparently, its original DVD release date of December 9th has now been push back by distributor, Peace Arch Entertainment, to January 6th 2009. So that’s just a little less than one month extra before I can enjoy the vintage 80’s slasher movie-house mayhem. I could take a trip to the Hoosier-land state of Indiana this September and catch one of MIDNIGHT’s two big-screen showings (which Mr. Ammon told you about here), but it’s a bit too far away.
I will, however, take solace in the fresh batch of stills that Fango scored from the flick. See one above, one below, and the rest here. It really does look like some amazingly fun, gory stuff! In case you weren’t yet fully familiar with the pot, here it is:
MIDNIGHT MOVIE is set in a suburban theater where a bunch of young people gather for the titular screening of THE DARK BENEATH, a stalker flick from the ’70s. They soon find out the hard way that its evil director/star, presumed dead in an asylum massacre, actually lives on in his own feature, and emerges from the screen to murder the kids and drag them into the film.
It was directed by Jack Messitt who co-wrote the script with Mark Garbett. The cast includes Rebekah Brandes, Daniel Bonjour, Mandell Maughan, Greg Cirulnick, Stan Ellsworth and Melissa Steach.
