Phoonk flick!

What the phoonk is a PHOONK? Well, it’s actually a brand new horror offering from Bollywood. Wow, that’s the second Bollywood genre title I’ve discovered within the span of one week (see my Nagin article here). What gives? Regardless, I’m glad that India is starting to surf the horror wave. And PHOONK looks like it may have some nice creeps to give. Take a look at the phoonking plot:

It’s about a happily married construction engineer who doesn’t believe in God or evil spirits—until one of the latter infests his home, forcing him to change his point of view on the spiritual world, and fast.

Hmm, could be interesting. Hopefully the evil spirits were not sent by God to make the engineer believe, like a certain M. Night film (which I still liked). I will say that the poster up top is effectively eerie. You can check out the flick’s equally impressive website by clicking here.

PHOONK was directed by Ram Gopal Varma, who also made a very popular supernatural India offering called BHOOT. PHOONK’s screenplay comes courtesy of Milind Gadagkar. I just love saying PHOONK! The cast includes Sudeep, Amruta Khanvilkar, Ahsaas Channa, and Shrey Bawa. It opens on August 22nd in India. No word yet on any U.S. screening.
