New Robocop’s log

Just last week, Jared P. informed us all that the forthcoming ROBOCOP remake was perhaps close to finding an excellent director in the form of Darren Aronofsky (THE FOUNTAIN, REQUIEM FOR A DREAM). If MGM and Phoenix Pictures do indeed go with Darren, then they better make sure to treat ROBOCOP the right, action-fueled way. I’m only saying this because people were once pretty jazzed when brilliant director Ang Lee signed on to bring another iconic, action-centric, green character to the big screen… and you all know what happened there.

Well, today we have another interesting tidbit about ROBOCOP’s next adventure. Apparently it is not a remake, but more of a reboot of the initial franchise. Take a look at its latest logline: Present day Los Angeles, 20 years after the termination of the RoboCop program, the city decides to reinstate the program. I guess you could technically call it a sequel, but it just doesn’t sound right to me. Not if Peter Weller ain’t donning the suit of metal again.

I honestly hope the people behind the new ROBOCOP are looking to craft an update as kick ass and imaginative and gory as the 1987 original. If not, then what’s the f*cking point? The projected release date as of now is 2010.
