Not Human poster

I just caught a whiff of a new, upcoming French horror flick called HUMANS (pronounced HUMAINS in its native tongue). The first teaser art for the production can be viewed above and at first glance I wasn’t too big a fan, thinking it was about some giant gorilla. Then I took a second look and realized that the ape-ish visage was actually formed out of a cavernous cave. Bingo! Now there’s some creative movie artwork. Plus, the closer I peer at the image above, that rock-carved face seems to appear more alien than ape. What could it mean? As you can see, I’m intrigued, which translates to “mission accomplished” for HUMANS’s advertising department. If your imagination has been captured as well, then please peep the plot:

A team of several researchers travel to the Swiss Alps to investigate a scientific discovery on human evolution. The trip, however, turns into a deadly fight for survival when the team crash into a gully and find themselves falling prey to someone…or something.

Not exactly the most original of ideas, but it sure sounds like the possibility of fun lies therein. HUMANS was directed by Pierre-Olivier Thévenin and Jacques-Olivier Molon from a script by Jean-Armand Bougrelle and Frédérique Henri. It’s set to release in France some time in 2009 and will hopefully garner some US showings soon.
