Today’s all about ambitious trilogies. I just told you about the (possible) plans for making a WANTED trilogy; now comes word of an even more intriguing undertaking – three films about the hunt for England’s notorious Yorkshire Ripper (pictured). That’s right, three films!

The films, entitled “1974”, “1980”, and “1983”, are based on four books by author David Peace concerning Peter Sutcliffe – the psychopath who murdered at least 13 women between the years of 1975 and 1980 in Yorkshire England – and the controversial investigation of his crimes… Sounds like FROM HELL/ZODIAC territory.

The films are being made as a TV series with a U.K. theatrical release likely to follow. Pics will carry the Film 4 banner outside the U.K. where they will be sold for theatrical release.

Tony Grisoni, who wrote the screenplay “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” has adapted the three Peace books. Julian Jarrold will direct “Nineteen Seventy-Four,” James Marsh will direct “Nineteen Eighty” and Anand Tucker will direct “Nineteen Eighty-Three.”
