Distr. for Trick?

TRICK ‘R TREAT! It’s been a while since you heard that phrase, right? Yup, all has been pretty quiet on the TRICK ‘R TREAT front ever since I last wrote about stupid Warner Bros. basically giving up on the flick here. Now, finally after months of nothing, we have an update from the writer/director himself, Michael Dougherty… and it’s actually positive… somewhat. Here’s what the man told the folks at Moviehole:

“The struggle continues. There’s interest from another distributor so negotiations have begun. Keep your severed fingers crossed!”

Okay, so we’ve got some negotiations going down with a new distributor. That sounds like some progress. Perhaps the success of THE STRANGERS and even THE HAPPENING helped someone finally see the light that there is a market for well-crafted, R-rated horror. Let’s hope that Alex Aja’s MIRRORS continues the trend in August. Let’s also hope that TRICK’s latest negotiations are strong and swift enough to get it into theaters by Halloween 2008. Have a look once more at its brilliantly constructed plotline:

The film features four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband.

My cleavage looks better in this costume!” “No, mine does!”
