Tribute: Stan Winston

Those of you saddened by the loss of the legendary Stan Winston are not alone,
as all of us here at
Arrow in the Head were equally shaken by the news
that the special effects genius passed away at the age of 62. I of course don’t need to list off his credits, since you all have most likely been compiling your favorite Winston creations in your head with fondness since you heard the dispiriting news. (For me, I’ll always associate the man with what I believe are his masterpieces: The Alien Queen, and the T-Rex. Hard to believe how many years ago these brilliant works were created, and that they’ve still yet to be topped.)

One of our trusty co-workers (Nick Bosworth that is on the JoBlo.com side of the coin) has done his own creating: a wonderful montage of Winston’s career. No, of course you can’t do justice to a man’s life in 5 minutes, but I think this is a fitting eulogy to the artist whose job it was to make us slack-jawed with wonder, terror, awe, and delight. It’s also a reminder of just how impressive Stan’s work really was, and how much fun he seemed to have bringing his imagination to life…
