Variety announced this morning that Magnolia Pictures has picked up the distribution rights to the Lucky McGee / Trygve Diesen directed RED, based on the novel by Jack Ketchum (adapted to the screen by Stephen Susco).
So what’s RED all about? Check it: An older, reclusive man’s best friend and inspiration for living is his 14-year-old dog named “Red”. When three troublesome teens kill the dog for no good reason, the grieving man sets out for justice and redemption by whatever means available to him.
There ain’t nothing better than a good revenge flick, and this smell like it has the makings of one kick-ass ride! It’s already made a debut at Sundance, and it looks like it found an audience there as well. The flick stars Brian Cox, horror legend Robert Englund, weirdo Amanda Plummer, ape-shit crazy Tom Sizemore, Kile Gallner, and Kim Dickens. Sounds like fun, no?
No release date on the feature has been set in stone yet, but a late summer limited-release is expected. RED is also expected to air on HDNet Ultra VOD (that’s Video On Demand) shortly before or after it’s theatrical debut. Cool beans.
