Friday The 13th FX

When Jason slashes and stabs on the big screen next February, we now have word on who will be slinging all the blood and gore. Makeup and special effects artist Scott Stoddard is on board for director Marcus Nispel’s FRIDAY THE 13TH re-imagining. To me, this is good news. I’ll tell you why after we take a look at Mr. Sotddard’s resume:

His credits include CONSTANTINE, THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK, GINGER SNAPS BACK: THE BEGINNING and the series, NIP/TUCK. Stoddard also handled the meat-hook-gouging, limb-sawing goodies on Nispel’s THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake.

Not a bad bio if I do say so. Each aforementioned flick and TV show is well-renowned for delivering top-notch special FX and generous portions of the red stuff, which is only part of the reason why I feel the hiring of Stoddard is good news. The main reason is because of the sweet work he did on Andrew Bryniarski’s Leatherface in the TEXAS remake. And I’m not just talking about the masks the chainsaw-wielding villain wore. I’m talking about the bastard’s actual FACE which we do get a glimpse of (unlike in the original). I really liked the remake’s idea to give Leather face this sick skin ailment that basically ate away at his face and Studdard’s make-up job really brought the disease disturbingly to life. Hence, I have high hopes if Nispel does indeed decide to give us a shot of the NEW Jason’s visage (like they did in part 2 above). He’s got the right FX sicko for the job, in my opinion!

Amanda Righetti stars in the new FRIDAY. Nice choice.
