If you haven’t yet caught Tobe Hooper’s 2003 update of 1978’s TOOLBOX MURDERS, you’re missing out on some good, old-fashioned brutal horror. I saw it not too long ago and was pleasantly surprised by the gritty love it showed for the genre. And now, after you catch Mr. Hooper’s version, you’ll be all primed for the forthcoming sequel!

Fango just got word from TOOLBOX 2003’s makeup FX head, Dean Jones, that he will be taking over the directing reigns on TOOLBOX MURDERS 2. “The deal is put together, and there’s something on paper,” Jones said. “Right now the producer is trying to work out some distribution deals. In a perfect world, we’d like to be shooting by May.”

Here’s hoping we’re living in a perfect world because I’m hungry for some more tool-inspired bloodshed. Jones will be collaborating on the script with Jeffrey Reddick who wrote FINAL DESTINATION and the recent DAY OF THE DEAD remake. Jones also let a little info on TOOBOX 2’s plot ooze out:

“The story will pick up where the first movie left off. We will be bringing back Nell [played in the original by Angela Bettis] and her husband, plus a few other characters. The story will continue to take place in Hollywood. This time you will see more of the killer, there will be more murders and more of a backstory about where he’s from and how he came to be.”

Sounds like he’ll be following the “basic horror sequel rules” to me… and that’s just fine! I wonder if he’ll be able to coax Ms. Bettis (MAY) to reprise her role? Again, here’s hoping we live in a perfect world.

Anna Faris played a very sexy role in MAY.
