Well, it looks like 20th Century Fox is hoping that the third time will finally be the charm for their should-have-been-awesome-but-wasn’t ALIEN VS PREDATOR franchise. STYD just got the word from an inside studio source that the chance of a second sequel was a “certainty” at this point.
So let me get this straight. If a mediocre flick spawns an even worse sequel, then another sequel after that becomes a certainty? What The F*ck?! Have the studio execs lost their minds? Did they get Arnold for number three or something?
I guess that ol’ bitch of an Alien and that ugly mother-f*cker Predator have become such iconic monsters of the cinema that even a piece of shite like AVP: REQUIEM (see our scathing review HERE) can’t stop ’em.
Can’t forget the power of the all-mighty dollar too. AVP: REQUIEM was budgeted around $40 million and grossed roughly $128.8 million worldwide. For all you non-math nerds out there, that’s an 88.8 million-dollar profit. Let’s hope that’s enough money for the studio to hire a really great writer for number 3 so that it doesn’t wind up smelling like number 2. No word yet on whether REQUIEM’s miss-helmers, the Straus brothers, will return.
