The first VACANCY was disposable entertainment for about 80 minutes – certainly nothing special, considering it had a fairly cool concept and interesting actors. But it passed the time in acceptable fashion, and then I was through with it… I suppose it’s too much to ask for a movie to exist on its own nowadays, but VACANCY is getting its very own direct-to-DVD prequel!
Bloody Disgusting provides the lowdown: When JESSICA, her fiancé CALEB and Caleb’s buddy TANNER check into the lonely Meadow View Inn in the middle of rural nowhere, they have no idea that the motel is run by a homicidal maniac and two vicious greedheads who are making a bloody dollar by selling snuff films on the black market…
Just a note – I have no idea what a “greedhead” is.
Eric Bross – who directed the pilot for the KOJAK update a few years back – will be taking the reins on this one. The scribe of the first movie, Mark L. Smith, will be conjuring up the screenplay. Shooting begins the 17th of next month.
And because it’s a prequel, I guess we already know there’s no hope for Caleb, Jessica, and Tanner – who I’m sure is a cut-up (cuz his name is “Tanner” and all). I just hope Frank Whaley returns as the deranged clerk – he actually gave VACANCY a genuine creepiness.
That said, I’m never opposed to Kate Beckinsale showing up in anything… (or in nothing…)
