Englund directs Vij

Just wrote an article about Robert Englund, and I’m going to write another! Seems the man is about to step behind the camera again (let’s not forget 976-EVIL) for a flick called THE VIJ. What’s even cooler? The film will star Christopher Lee!

Based on an eponymous novel by Russian writer Nikolaj Gogol, “The Vij” revolves around an evil genie who conditions the actions of a young priest, leading him to commit murder and fall in love with an old witch who is actually not what she seems.

Sounds fairly weird – right up Englund’s alley. Shooting is scheduled to begin in April in Italy. Lee will play a god-like character alled “The Father,” and Englund will co-star, as will Russian actress Olga Schuvalova. This is an interesting step for Englund, who might need some time in Europe while someone else is wearing Freddy’s sweatshirt…
