So we’re all going ga-ga for Heath Ledger’s Joker lately – and who wouldn’t based on the teaser – but we’ve all kind’ve forgotten, or at least haven’t heard much about, Aaron Echhart’s Harvey “Two-Face” Dent very much lately. Well, THE DARK KNIGHT director Christopher Nolan is making sure we’re reminded about him by revealing that he’s not only important to the tale, he’s damn near crucial!

“Harvey Dent is a tragic figure, and his story is the backbone of this film,” says Christopher Nolan, the director of the acclaimed franchise-rejuvenating 2005 film “Batman Begins,” who returns with Christian Bale again playing the caped crusader. “The Joker, he sort of cuts through the film — he’s got no story arc, he’s just a force of nature tearing through. Heath has given an amazing performance in the role, it’s really extraordinary.”

Interesting admission on his behalf – saying that the Joker has no arc. And yet that makes me think this character will be truly insane in an unforgettable way. I can dig it.

Nolan ends on this note:
“It’s a dark and complex story, and the villains are dark and complex as well.”

I’m dark and complex too, and I love stories about people I can relate to. I will be there opening day, July 18, to see which character reminds me most of me. (I’m betting it’s Alfred.)

Maggie Gylenhaal – looking very dark and complex here…
