French Magazine Mad Movies is reporting that Nu Image, the company behind RAMBO and SHARKS IN VENICE and now the new CONAN THE BARBARIAN franchise, is looking at Gerard Butler to wear the loincloth (or whatever the hell it is Conan wears) in the new film. Furthermore, John McTiernan (DIE HARD, PREDATOR) is first on their wishlist to helm the flick. Now apparently Mad Movies got this info from a Nu Image insider, so while it’s probably true that the company wouldn’t mind having these two involved, it’s not set in stone that they WILL participate.
There’s no doubt that Butler has a hole to fill – ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, which he was to star in, fell apart after two directors walked away from it. McTiernan, however, has four projects listed on the IMDB as being in pre-production. But that’s IMDB – I could put myself down as the director of BEN-HUR 2 if I were so inclined. There’s also the fact that McTiernan been sentenced to four months in a Federal Pen for perjury, which he might begin serving early next year.
We’ll see how much water this holds in the coming months…
